If you've visited your local Bunnings Warehouse anytime in the last year, you'll have no doubt noticed the ever-growing smart home security section. Perhaps you've had a little peruse while en route to buy yet another indoor plant, but never quite felt ready to take the leap and throw a camera in your cart.

Well, to help out, we've ranked the best security cameras Bunnings has to offer. We've also linked to other retailers—as long as they offer the product for the same or cheaper price—in case you don't live near a Bunnos (or simply can't be bothered).

This starter kit also comes with the Tapo Smart Hub, which functions as a home base for any other Tapo smart devices you may have (like contact sensors or smart plugs) as well as local storage for your camera footage. Yep, that means no monthly fees for cloud storage like you'll find with Ring or Arlo. Better yet, the storage is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.

The Eufy Security S340 has a good IP67 weatherproof rating, and thanks to the approximately four-metre-long cable, you can place it just about anywhere (as long as the solar panel gets a decent amount of sun).

As for the negatives, this camera (and all Ring cameras) doesn't include local storage. That means you'll have to fork out $4.95 per month for cloud storage, more if you have more than one Ring camera. Unfortunately, some other features (like rich notifications and person alerts) are also locked behind the subscription paywall.

We love that you can store footage locally (up to 256GB), meaning you don't need to fork out for cloud storage. That said, if you want more advanced features like privacy zones and AI detection, you'll need to pay for a subscription.

The major downside to the Arlo Pro 5, however, is that a lot of its hallmark smart features are locked behind a paywall. That said, with no onboard storage, you're practically forced to pay for the subscription anyway, which unlocks both cloud storage and all those paywalled features.

Next time you're in the Bunnings smart home security section, we highly recommend picking up the Tapo C420S2 two-camera package. It's a fantastic all-rounder that offers great value, with no nasty hidden fees. Still, any of the cameras on our list are more than up to the task of protecting your castle.
